About Julie
I’ve always had a fascination with Art and Design. As an Art Studio and History major-graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1978, I explored and studied designs in clay and sculpture with interest and enthusiasm. I began my career in the art museum field in 1980 at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University where I worked for two years, inspired by their world-class collection. From 1981-1986, I served as Executive Director at Westminster Gallery, a British craft gallery on Newbury Street in Boston, where I became particularly entranced by British pottery. I got to know many of the British artists, and their intricate work made an enormous impression on me. I went on to become the Director of the historic Society of Arts and Crafts on Newbury Street in Boston from 1986-1991, where I curated many exhibitions featuring leading American ceramic artists, and where I was exposed to the work of a variety of artists working in an assortment of craft mediums. During this period, I also visited craft shows all over the country, taking trips to local art schools, studios, and conferences to discover and understand the work of emerging and established artists. More recently, I served at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum from 2015-2020 as manager of the jewelry collection at the museum store, Gift at the Gardner. Finally, since 2021, it has been a nourishing and fulfilling experience working on and developing my own ceramic designs, and going forward, I look forward to applying all of the visual stimulations and inspirations from my art career journey into my designs, and my own personal voice in clay.
